Video: Tottenham centre-back target just got one of the strangest Champions League red cards
Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for a versatile English defender, with whom their new interim boss, Igor Tudor, has worked in the past.
There is still a lot of work to be done at Spurs before they can start preparing for the summer window, with the club not even assured of their Premier League status next season.
However, reports suggest that there are increasing fears at Tottenham that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero could demand to leave.
The Lilywhites may thus be looking at potential centre-back options, and one Juvenuts star reportedly features on their wishlist.
Tottenham eyeing move for Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly
It has been revealed by TuttoJuve journalist Mirko Di Natale that Juventus centre-back Llyod Kelly is on Tottenham’s wishlist.
The 27-year-old had a loan spell at Juve last season, where he played under Igor Tudor, who was in charge of the Bianconeri when they purchased him permanently last summer.
Di Natale reveals that while Juve do not want to sell Kelly, the interest from Tottenham, Chelsea, and Liverpool is worth watching.
The journalist adds that the 27-year-old, who can also play at left-back, is valued at between €40m and €50m (£35m-£43.4m).
Ben Davies’ contract runs out in the summer, and Kelly may be the right profile to replace the Welshman in the Spurs squad, given his homegrown status.
The 27-year-old is also comfortable in a back three, having done well under Tudor last season, and a move from Spurs for the Englishman may depend on the Croat staying.
However, it has been reported that Tottenham are unlikely to appoint Tudor permanently in the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi the frontrunners to be installed as the permanent head coach.
Lloyd Kelly receives a controversial red card in Champions League clash
Juventus were part of a topsy-turvy, whirlwind Champions League play-off match with Galatasaray on Wednesday night. After the first leg ended in a shock 5-2 win for Gala in Turkey, the Old Lady fought back to 5-5 on aggregate during their home leg, despite having Lloyd Kelly sent off.
The former Newcastle defender went up for a header against Baris Yilmaz and – seemingly accidentally – landed on the Galatasaray forward’s calf. Kelly was initially shown a second yellow card, before VAR overturned the decision to a bizarre straight red.
