Liverpool hand Tottenham advantage in race for free transfer from Real Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed some good transfer news in their rumoured pursuit of a former Chelsea centre-back.
It appears Spurs have already started assessing their options for reinforcements at centre-back, even though we are still a while away from the summer window and the club are not even assured of their top-flight status next season.
Over recent weeks, reports have suggested that Tottenham have been informed about the potential availability of a Real Madrid star, who is in the final few months of his contract.
The player in question is Antonio Rudiger, who Spurs have enquired about bringing back to the Premier League.
Tottenham do not need to worry about Premier League rivals in Antonio Rudiger race
Football Insider have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have indeed set their sights on the 33-year-old ahead of the summer.
The report says that the Lilywhites are extremely keen to add Rudiger’s experience to their defensive unit.
However, the outlet asserts that despite reports to the contrary, Liverpool are not expected to enter the race for the former Chelsea man, who is seen as being too old for their current project.
Tottenham could face competition for Rudiger from the Middle East, with ‘significant interest from Saudi Arabia anticipated’ for the centre-back this summer.
Spurs’ move for Rudiger could depend on one factor
Interestingly, Football Insider say that Tottenham’s pursuit of the German international could depend on the futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Both centre-backs are of interest to multiple elite European clubs, and Spurs are already assessing potential replacements should either one leave the club.
The outlet also makes it clear relegation from the Premier League would end any chances the North Londoners had of landing the Real Madrid man.
