'Disney Princess' Lyrics & Song Meaning Explained: Melanie Martinez Releases New 'HADES' Track
Melanie Martinez is back with a new track.
The 30-year-old K-12 singer dropped her new song, “Disney Princess,” on Wednesday (February 25).
The song is described in an official release as “a razor-sharp mockery of society’s commodification of women” that “reframes the idea of ‘selling your soul’ as something far more insidious.”
Melanie also shared a statement about the meaning behind the song: “I love writing about the entertainment industry and how it affects women. It’s a perfect microcosm of the world around us, how numb and disconnected you can become if you allow others to commodify you.”

“We can go there faster than they can / Faster than the average person / Los Angeles, turn on your TV / Come on, worship me, I’m perfect / Behind the scenes, liquor and cocaine / Suffering and pain, it’s worth it / My allowance bought me everything / Still can’t buy my innocence,” she sings on the track, written with and produced by CJ Baran.
Her studio album HADES will be released on March 27.
