Two killed in recent east Contra Costa County shootings are identified
Authorities have identified a man and woman who were shot to death in separate shootings earlier this month in eastern Contra Costa County.
The more recent of the two happened Monday in unincorporated Oakley near Bethel Island. Authorities said 38-year-old Martinez resident Edward Garofalo IV was down with a gunshot wound when Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived to the 3200 block of Dutch Slough Road about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday.
He died at the scene.
The other shooting happened on Feb. 19 and killed 20-year-old Antioch resident Dimon Commodore. Antioch police officers found Commodore with at least one gunshot wound in the 2200 block of Sycamore Avenue about 7:15 p.m.
Commodore also died at the scene.
Neither the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office nor Antioch police announced any arrests or identified any suspects in the shooting. They homicides were the first ones investigated by the agencies in 2026.
