Passing of Don Dennison
MWSRA Recognizes the Passing of Don Dennison on 13th Feb 2026.
Don was a past President and major force in the growth and reputation of MWSRA. His guidance as a multi-year Board member and wise counselor gave us a strong platform to follow and maintain.
His full Obituary is below:
Donald L. Dennison, age 93, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, intellect, and passion. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and the love of his life, Tina Dennison. Donald is survived by his children Scott Dennison (Denise), Carol Dennison, and David Dennison (Jessica); and by his three cherished grandchildren, Casey, Reece, Taylor and 2 step grandchildren Jordyn and Noah.
Donald was a proud graduate of St. Albans High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1955. He later received his Juris Doctor from George Washington University in 1961. He devoted his professional life to intellectual property law, practicing in partnership with his father and earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
In the 1950s, Donald proudly served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, contributing his technical expertise during a formative period of his career.
Beyond his legal and military service, Donald lived a life rich in interests and public service. He was a drummer in Scottish marching bands and proudly performed with the Washington Redskins Marching Band. He was an avid Corvette enthusiast, a private pilot, and a licensed amateur (ham) radio operator.
Donald also served his community as a First Responder Transport volunteer and was a certified Search and Rescue K9 team member with his beloved dog Cognac. After retiring from SAR work, he continued to give back as part of a therapy dog team, bringing comfort and companionship to many.
A lifelong soccer official, Donald was a FIFA and NISOA certified referee and a respected leader in American soccer officiating. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions as a referee, clinician, assessor, and international instructor, he was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008. His influence helped shape generations of officials at youth, collegiate, professional, and international levels.
Donald will be remembered for his dedication, curiosity, and generosity of spirit. His life was marked by service, learning, and a love of adventure, family, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence, kindness, and commitment that will continue through his family and all those whose lives he touched.
No service or memorial is planned at this time. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
