Trump's SOTU hit with swift real-time fact-check as 'lies are coming fast and furious'
A top Democrat in the House of Representatives fact-checked President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday in real time.
During the speech, Trump claimed that inflation has come down to the lowest point since he became president last year. He also repeated one of his favorite phrases that America is the "hottest country" right now.
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) fact-checked several of Trump's claims during the speech.
"America is not the hottest nation, as Trump said," Lieu said. "FACTS: Tourism in America declined, while global tourism increased."
Lieu also shot back at Trump's claim about inflation.
"At the State of the Union, Trump’s lies are coming fast and furious," Lieu posted on X. "FACTS: 1. In the last inflation report, Core CPI accelerated from December to January. 2. In the last inflation report, PCE, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge rose to 3%, above expectations."
