Jones Leads All Scorers in Loss at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Arkansas women’s basketball dropped to 0-14 in SEC play after a 78-57 loss at Texas A&M (12-11, 5-9) on Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Taleyah Jones led all scorers with 21 points and picked up her 10th 20-point game of the season.

First Quarter – 11-15

• Texas A&M controlled the tip but threw the ball away on its first possession. Arkansas traveled on its first possession.
• The Aggies started with back-to-back baskets from Fatmata Janneh. Taleyah Jones answered with a banked-in three.
• Texas A&M led 11-5 at the first media timeout. The Aggies had four points off offensive boards in the first five minutes.
• Ashlynn Chlarson picked up two fouls by the 4:39 mark and sat for the rest of the half.
• The Aggies went on a two-plus-minute drought and the Hogs fired off a 6-0 run to make it 13-11 Texas A&M with 2:30 to play.
• Both teams finished the quarter with over two minute scoring drought.s

Second Quarter – 25-36

• Arkansas traveled on its first two possessions of the second quarter.
• The Aggies made four straight from the field to take a 24-13 lead with six minutes left in the half.
• Texas A&M led 29-19 with makes on six of its last seven from the field at the media timeout.
• The Razorbacks shot 28% (9-32) from the field compared to A&M’s 37% (13-35). Arkansas was held to one three-pointer, Jones’ to start the game. The Aggies made five.
• Rebounds were even at 24-24. Deas led the Hogs with seven.

Third Quarter – 43-63

• A&M started the half with a three-pointer from Ny’ceara Pryor. Arkansas responded with a jumper from Chlarson and a layup from Deas to get it back to a 10-point deficit.
• Chlarson picked up two more fouls just 2:45 into the half.
• Texas A&M led 49-31 at the media timeout.
• The Aggies took a 20-point, 53-33, lead at the 2:54 mark.
• Maria Anais Rodriguez hit a three at the 1:53 mark, the fifth straight game the center has made a three.
• A&M closed the quarter with six straight makes from the field.

Fourth Quarter – 57-78

• The Aggies continued their hot streak with a jumper from Anita Franchini to open the quarter.
• Chlarson fouled out with 7:32 left in the game.
• Jones surpassed 20 points with a pair of free throws with 32 seconds remaining.

Game Notes

• Bonnie Deas’ nine boards put her at second for most rebounds by a freshman in a season at Arkansas. She trails Betty Fiscus by 20 rebounds.
• Jones led the Hogs with 21 points, her 10th 20-point game of the season and her 17th time leading Arkansas in scoring.
