Andrews ‘Over The Moon’ With First Professional Goal
Hibernian midfielder Kai Andrews admitted he was ‘over the moon’ to score his first professional goal, with his match-winning strike sealing a famous 2-1 victory over Celtic in Glasgow.
The 19-year-old midfielder scored the decisive goal at Celtic Park, coming off the bench to slot home in the closing stages – after Benjamin Nygren had cancelled out Felix Passlack’s opener in the first half.
Auston Trusty was sent off for Celtic in the second half, before Kai Andrews popped up with a late winner, slotting the ball into the bottom corner and sparking wild scenes in the away end just three minutes from time.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, the Coventry loanee told us how happy he was to score such a crucial goal.
“First of all, from a team perspective, I thought throughout the full game we were brilliant.
“The red card was definitely a big turning point. It gave a lot of us confidence and it definitely gave me confidence coming onto the pitch knowing we were a man up.
“Individually, to come on and finish the game the way I did and score my first professional goal — I’m over the moon. I’m just so buzzing.
“When I saw it hit the back of the net, I had so many emotions I couldn’t really control them. I just saw all the boys in the corner and my first thought was to run over to them. I was over the moon.”
Kai’s goal ended a run of 16 years without a win at Celtic Park, with the last victory back in 2010 when a 19-year Danny Galbraith scored a late winner in a similar fashion.
“(That stat) was mentioned in a few meetings, so for us to come here and do it today – and for me to contribute with a goal – is an amazing feeling.
“Going into the end of the season, this is massive for us to build on.
“Our target is to chase down the team in front of us and we’ve definitely given ourselves a good platform heading into the next few games. There’s a lot of confidence in the squad, so it’s a great opportunity for us.”
