'One Battle After Another' & 'Sinners' Win Big at 2026 BAFTA Film Awards
The 2026 BAFTA Film Awards have officially been announced, with Paul Thomas Anderson taking home an incredible haul with Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The film was the undisputed champion of the ceremony, even though Teyana Taylor was notably overlooked in Best Supporting Actress in favor of Sinners' Wunmi Mosaku. Sinners went on to win awards such as Best Original Score and Best Original Screenplay.
Breaking Down the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards
Beyond One Battle After Another and Sinners, films such as Chloe Zhao's Hamnet, Kirk Jones' I Swear, and Guillermodel Toro's Frankenstein also took home plenty of awards, with the latter sweeping the design and production categories.
Hamnet continued its acting dominance with a Best Actress victory for Jessie Buckley, who could now sweep the entire season if she wins at the SAG Awards and the Oscars—which looks increasingly likely.
Robert Aramayo's victory in Best Actor was perhaps the biggest surprise of the night, as he beat supposed frontrunners TimothéeChalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the process. The BAFTAs are typically friendly towards select British films, and I Swear is definitely their critical darling this year.
Best Supporting Actor was another big surprise, with Sean Penn taking home the award for his turn in One Battle After Another. He beat Jacob Elordi, Stellan Skarsgard, and Benecio del Toro, who have all been performing strongly at various televised ceremonies and critics circles. This is easily the most unpredictable of the four acting categories.
Best Supporting Actress was expected to go to Teyana Taylor for One Battle After Another, but it ended up in the hands of critical favorite Wunmi Mosaku for Sinners. It's unclear whether this will give her enough momentum to surpass Taylor and Amy Madigan, who have Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards under their belts, but anything is possible.
One Battle After Another winning Best Film isn't a big surprise at this point, as Paul Thomas Anderson's acclaimed thriller continues to pick up awards at every single ceremony. It's now the clear frontrunner for the Oscars, and it's unlikely anything else will be able to dethrone it.
