Minister Navicha Hails FGRF for Timely Food Relief in Thyolo
Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Mary Navicha has hailed the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) for providing timely food assistance to vulnerable families in Thyolo Thava Constituency.
Navicha made the remarks on the sidelines of a food distribution exercise held at Mtambanyama Ground in Thyolo.
A total of 4,000 households are set to benefit from the relief items under the foundation’s nationwide Ramadan campaign.
The initiative aims to reach 100,000 vulnerable households across the country during the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign was launched in Nsanje District, where thousands of families received food packs containing maize flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, salt and soya pieces.
Speaking during the ceremony, Navicha — who is also Member of Parliament for Thyolo Thava — said the support has come at a critical time.
She explained that the area was heavily affected by a prolonged dry spell which left many households food insecure.
“This assistance has come at the right time when many families are struggling due to the effects of the dry spell,” she said.
The minister further appealed to organisations and development partners to support communities in winter cropping initiatives.
She said promoting winter farming would help households build resilience and reduce dependence on relief aid.
FGRF Communications Director Ibrahim Omar Mataya said the organisation has lined up additional programmes aimed at strengthening community resilience.
He noted that the interventions are targeting communities affected by the effects of climate change.
Mataya said beyond food distribution, the foundation is committed to long-term initiatives that will empower communities to withstand environmental and economic shocks.
The Ramadan relief campaign continues in other districts as FGRF works towards its target of assisting 100,000 households nationwide.
