POWER, SECRECY, AND TRIBAL STORM: MCP IN TURMOIL
Tension is rising inside the Malawi Congress Party.
A party spokesperson has refused to comment on reports that President Lazarus Chakwera is considering handing over the MCP mantle to Chithyola.
“What is your business with MCP affairs?” the spokesperson fired back when pressed for answers.
“You will hear if it is true or not,” added.
Then came the bombshell:
“Now we are in the process of consolidating power.”
Questions over new party appointments were met with more resistance. Critics have pointed out that the latest picks are all from the Central Region — one from Kasungu, one from Ntchisi, and two from Lilongwe, including the President’s close ally.
But the spokesperson dismissed the concerns.
“Why are you interested in MCP? The positions represent the whole country,” spokesperson said.
However, investigations by Malawi Voice paint a different picture. All four recent appointees reportedly hail from the Central Region — raising fresh accusations that Chakwera is still playing the tribal card.
The developments have rattled senior figures within the party.
Veteran politician Kamajekete is said to be deeply unhappy. Sources say he has hinted at jumping ship to the People’s Party or the Democratic Progressive Party, claiming the MCP has “lost direction.”
Inside the party, whispers are growing louder.
Power is being consolidated.
Questions are being shut down.
And the storm within MCP is far from over.
