Celtic 1 Hibs 2

We produced a stunning performance this afternoon to record our first win at Parkhead for 16 years after defeating Celtic 2-1.

We deservedly took the lead midway through the first half when Felix Passlack's diving header beat Kasper Schmeichel at his near post. The home side rallied thereafter, and Benjamin Nygren hauled them level before the half-time interval with a close-range finish.

With just 17 minutes remaining, Auston Trusty was shown a straight red card for violent conduct that proved costly for the hosts as we snatched victory - as there were just three minutes left when Kai Andrews curled a brilliant low finish into the Celtic net following a clinical counter-attack.

David Gray made one change to his side following our 2-0 win over St Mirren last weekend, with Martin Boyle replacing Dane Scarlett. Following their midweek loss to Stuttgart, Celtic brought in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yang Hyun-Jun for Daizen Maeda and Paulo Bernardo.

Lining up in our yellow away kit we started in our familiar 3-4-1-2 formation and made a positive start to the game.

Within the opening 15 seconds we showed our intent with Jamie McGrath playing a neat one-two with Boyle before flashing a delivery across the face of the Celtic goal.

Celtic’s Schmeichel then put his side under needless pressure with a misplaced pass that Owen Elding pounced upon, he then fed it into the feet of Boyle, who tried to turn and get a shot away only for a heavy touch to allow Calum McGregor to steal it away.

On nine minutes we worked the ball excellently down the right and from Passlack’s low cross, Nicky Cadden’s first-time shot was bravely blocked by Julian Araujo sliding in.

Celtic’s first real effort of note came on the 17th minute when Nygren’s powerful low shot from the edge of our box was deflected just wide of Raphael Sallinger’s near post.

We continued to look the more threatening side and had a big chance to break the deadlock when Miguel Chaiwa broke forward from the middle of the park, he found Boyle and although his shot was blocked by Trusty, the rebound fell kindly to Elding who failed to make a clean connection - which allowed Schmeichel to save.

We deservedly took the lead in the 24th minute when Nicky Cadden’s pinpoint delivery found Passlack coming in on the blindside of Sebastian Tounekti to guide a wonderful header past Schmeichel and notch his first Hibs goal.

Three minutes later and we had a huge chance to extend our advantage. Nicky Cadden floated a wonderful pass over the head of Liam Scales to put Boyle in behind. The striker brought the ball down on his chest, and he was arguably too wide to score, however he opted to shoot when he had better options inside and Schmeichel saved.

It proved to be a crucial moment as Celtic began to put us under pressure for the remainder of the first half. It all started with Oxlade-Chamberlain shooting over the crossbar from Yang’s cut back, while Kieran Tierney was doing his best to drive his side forward and was a potent threat down Celtic’s left.

On 32 minutes, the wing-back played a terrific cross into the area between Sallinger and his defence, the goalkeeper opted to come for it only for Yang to steal in and get their first. The Celtic player got his head to it, forcing his effort down into the turf only for it to bounce high over the crossbar.

Two minutes from half-time and Celtic missed a remarkable chance. Araujo and Yang combined down their right, Rocky dived in attempting to cut out the low cross and missed, leaving Tomas Cvancara with what appeared a simple chance to score - only for him to slice his shot wide of the target.

For all their pressure, Celtic had yet to have a shot on target. However, that changed in the first of three added minutes at the end of the first half when Nygren got goalside of Dan Barlaser to head in a Tierney cross from point-blank range.

The home team started the second period on the front foot and put us under intense early pressure, with O’Hora sending a clearance just wide of our far post in the opening seconds.

In the moments that followed Sallinger was called into action to beat away a shot from Nygren before Trusty volleyed wide at the front post following a Celtic corner.

The pouring rain was making the playing surface difficult, and it almost cost us when Sallinger slipped after collecting a throw in from O’Hora, which almost allowed Cvancara an open goal however the goalkeeper recovered to hook it away from danger.

On 64 minutes, Yang linked up brilliantly with Nygren and his shot looked netbound had it not been for a crucial block from Rocky to divert it just wide of the far post as Celtic Park held its breath.

Celtic were reduced to ten men on 72 minutes when Trusty lashed out at McGrath for holding his shirt at a corner and was dismissed for violent conduct. It was a reckless decision from the American defender that would ultimately prove costly for his side.

Before then however - when the corner was eventually taken - there was a big call for a penalty as Iredale allegedly held the shirt of Scales for too long, however after a VAR check it was cleared.

Into the final ten minutes and substitutes Marcelo Saracchi and Jame Forrest linked up well, with the former shooting just over the crossbar from 16 yards.

Despite all of Celtic’s pressure we would make our numerical advantage count three minutes before the end of normal time when Iredale’s cross from the left was touched back into the path of Andrews by substitute Ante Šuto, and the midfielder passed it into the far corner of the net past a stranded Schmeichel.

Andrews’ first Hibs goal stunned Celtic Park and sparked wild scene of celebration amongst our supporters in the corner.

In the first of five additional minutes Sallinger saved from Araujo’s header before McGregor volleyed wide soon after.

Celtic threw everything at us, including Schmeichel coming up for a last-minute corner kick, however we defended brilliantly to claim a famous win in the east end of Glasgow.
