Two Pakistani soldiers, five militants killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa clash
Two Pakistani soldiers and five militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district, according to a statement.
Pakistan’s military said on Saturday the clash occurred in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during an intelligence-based operation against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to the statement, five militants were killed in an exchange of fire as security forces moved to prevent a planned suicide bombing.
The army said a sixth militant then rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a military vehicle, killing one officer and one soldier.
In its statement, the military accused TTP members of continuing militant activities inside Pakistan while using Afghanistan territory as a base. The Taliban authorities deny the presence of militant groups such as TTP in Afghanistan and say they do not allow their territory to be used against other countries.
The army warned it would show “no restraint” and would continue operations against those responsible, regardless of their location.
This comes amid rising cross-border tensions, as Pakistani airstrikes struck parts of Nangarhar province overnight, including Behsud, Khogyani and Ghani Khil districts.
Taliban officials said the strikes hit civilian areas, causing casualties including women and children, while Pakistan maintained it targeted militant hideouts.
