Pentagon Presented Trump With Plan Including Killing Khamenei, His Son, Report Says
The Pentagon reportedly offered President Trump military options against Iran that include targeting Supreme Leader Khamenei and his son as tensions escalate, Axios reports.
The U.S. military has presented a range of contingency plans to Donald Trump that include scenarios to target Ali Khamenei and his son Mojtaba, according to senior advisers cited by Axios. Officials told the outlet that while no decision has been made, such options remain under consideration amid growing tensions with Tehran.
One senior Trump adviser said the Pentagon “has something for every scenario,” including plans that would remove regime leaders, but emphasized that Trump has not committed to any strike. Another source confirmed the decapitation option was floated several weeks ago.
At the same time, Trump is reportedly open to reviewing Iran’s nuclear proposal that might allow limited “token” uranium enrichment if Tehran can demonstrate no path to weapons development, underscoring deep divisions within U.S. policy circles.
Iranian negotiators, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran is preparing a detailed counterproposal to ease tensions and avoid conflict, while warning that waiting could increase the risk of war.
U.S.–Iran tensions have grown as the Biden-era nuclear deal remains stalled. Washington has warned Iran it must curb uranium enrichment or face consequences, including possible military action.
Iran has insisted its nuclear program is peaceful and has indicated readiness to negotiate, but hardliners in both Washington and Tehran have raised the stakes, increasing fears of miscalculation.
The possibility of targeting Iran’s supreme leader signals how high the stakes have become, though advisers stress diplomacy and military options remain contingent on Tehran’s response.
