Shootout near Bridgeview pool hall leaves man dead, concealed-carry holder wounded
A shootout in the parking lot of a southwest suburban pool hall left a man dead and another wounded early Saturday.
Authorities responded at 2:11 a.m. to the shooting outside Que Ball Sports Bar, 7735 S. Harlem Ave., according to a statement from Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha.
A group of people were playing inside the pool hall about 2 a.m. when another group walked in, Mancha said through a spokesman, citing preliminary information.
When the first group left about 10 minutes later, the second group followed them outside and “words were exchanged,” Mancha said.
A man in the second group “brandished a handgun,” prompting a concealed-carry license holder in the first group to grab a gun from his vehicle, according to police.
They exchanged fire, and the man from the second group was hit multiple times. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead within the hour, police said.
The concealed-carry license holder was hit in the torso and taken to the same hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
Neighboring police agencies were called to help oversee a crowd that gathered in the parking lot. Detectives recovered the CCL holder’s gun and numerous shell casings at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office had not released the name of the man who was killed as of Saturday afternoon, and no charges had been filed in the case.
