JJ Gabriel starred as Manchester United U18s beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The 15-year-old scored a brace to take his tally to 14, one behind Liverpool’s Joshua Sonni-Lombie — the competition’s top scorer.
First-team head coach Michael Carrick, assistant coach Steve Holland and Academy director Stephen Torpey were in attendance.
Off the back of scoring against Oxford United on Wednesday in the FA Youth Cup, Gabriel opened the scoring with a stunning strike in the 24th minute.
After a clever move, he drove into the area and skipped past his markers before unleashing an unstoppable strike into the net from an acute angle.
Gabriel came close to getting on the scoresheet again in the 40th minute, smashing a shot off the crossbar.
The red-hot youngster thought he had doubled United’s lead before the hour mark, intercepting a pass and firing home, but the effort was ruled out for handball.
Wolves pulled one back in the 80 minute, with Mason Stevens slotting the ball past Fred Heath in the United goal.
United were awarded a penalty on the stroke of time of full-time following a foul on Bassirou Nkoto. Gabriel converted the spot-kick, sealing a brilliant performance.
United have now won their last four league matches, but still trail leaders Manchester City, who have two games in hand, by four points.
Up next for Darren Fletcher’s side is a home game against Derby County on Wednesday afternoon.
