KATSEYE's Manon’s Unexpected Hiatus Is a Reminder for Young Girls to Prioritize Their Well-being
Beloved girl group KATSEYE has been at the top of their game, even earning Grammy nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best New Artist at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. However, in a truly unexpected turn of events, one of the members is taking an indefinite hiatus; and it’s reminding people it’s okay to take a step back.
The six-member girl group is composed of six members: Sophia Laforteza, Manon Bannerman, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung. They were first formed following the Netflix competition series Pop Star Academy, and have become household staples with their songs like “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”

But now, Manon is taking an indefinite hiatus. The group posted to their X account, starting by saying, “Hello. After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing.”
“KATSEYE remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us,” the statement added. “The group will continue scheduled activities during this time, and we look forward to being together again when the time is right. Thank you to our EYEKONS for your continued love, patience, and understanding.”
While this comes as a shock to many, with just as many fans worried about a disbandment, it’s a new reminder for young girls to prioritize their mental health. Many icons like Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles have taken hiatuses. (In fact, Biles withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental state, and came back stronger and better than ever.)
Studies from the CDC show that 57 percent of teen girls reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, with many focusing on ways to calm their mental health. And when we see an idol take control of her wellbeing, we’re sure it inspires many.
