Fashioning a brighter future for Malawian women
Miss Malawi 2025, Thandie Chisi, on Friday 20 February met with Vice President Jane Ansah to discuss her mission to empower young women through sustainable fashion.
As founder and executive director of Sustainable Fashion and Women Empowerment, Thandie has made it her goal to equip vulnerable women with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive.
Through her organization’s programs, Thandie has reached over 600 young women and girls from underserved communities, providing them with training in tailoring and life skills.
Her holistic approach recognizes that technical skills are just the starting point – financial literacy is equally crucial for long-term success.
Thandie’s efforts have earned recognition from institutions, and she’s now partnering with organizations like TEVETA to amplify her impact.
A national campaign to promote vocational skills is already in the works, aiming to inspire a new generation of Malawian women.
Vice President Ansah praised Thandie’s bold approach, saying her work resonates deeply with Malawi’s youth.
Thandie’s vision is ambitious – to transform thousands of lives across the country. Her own story is a testament to the power of vocational skills and education in unlocking potential.
Ansah encouraged Thandie to keep sharing her journey, inspiring others with her passion and dedication. Together, they’re proving that sustainable fashion can be a powerful catalyst for change.
