2026 Chicago Sun-Times All-City boys basketball team
A pair of DePaul Prep seniors headlines the 2026 Chicago Sun-Times All-City boys basketball team.
Guard Rykan Woo (Brown) and 6-7 Rashaun Porter (Toledo) helped the Rams live up to the lofty preseason No. 1 expectations all season and are now focused on leading the team to its fourth consecutive state championship.
DePaul won the 3A title the past two seasons and the 2A title in 2023. The Rams' run is a level below the dominant four-title stretch of Peoria Manual in two-class basketball and Simeon's four consecutive 4A titles. And don't forget about Orr, which won three consecutive 2A titles and was in Peoria ready to win a fourth when the state tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID.
But winning just one state title is impressive, and a streak of three in any combination of classes is especially notable. Woo was still adjusting to his role on the team during last season's run to the 3A title.
"I didn’t feel like I played at my best in the state finals, but I did help contribute to our win and the guys stepped up," Woo said. "It was a collective."
Woo was learning how to succeed while being the focal point of the opposition defense. He's fully mastered that now and is ready to lead the Rams through the playoffs.
Porter was born on the West Side and lived there before moving to Hillside in third grade. He's the area's most dominant big man and is capable of playing on the perimeter but has sacrificed that to help the Rams win.
"Everyone says 4A is the best, but every class is competitive," Porter said. "Some 3A schools beat 4A schools. But it is exciting to be in 4A, and it is going to be an exciting run."
The DePaul Prep stars are joined on the First Team by Young's Marquis Clark (Tennessee) and two talented, uncommitted guards: Marist's Charles Barnes and Curie's Justin Oliver.
Clark and Oliver were easy selections destined for first team honors back in November.
Barnes fought his way onto the First Team after missing most of last year with an injury. He's developed into the best shooter in the city, posting multiple games of more than 30 points efficiently.
“I can’t say enough about his talent,” Marist coach Brian Hynes said. “And the whole school loves him. He is an unbelievable kid.”
Players on teams in the Chicago city limits are eligible for All-City. The All-Area team, comprised of players in the Sun-Times’ entire coverage area, will be released next week. Check out all the nominees with their season stats.
