Lautaro Martinez likely to miss Milan derby as Inter confirm extent of injury
Lautaro Martinez has suffered a muscle strain in the soleus of his left leg, an injury that is expected to keep the Inter captain sidelined for around a month and rule him out of the derby against Milan.
Inter released an official statement on Friday following the medical tests conducted on their striker, Lautaro Martinez, this morning.
Lautaro Martinez injury: official Inter statement
The Argentina international had suffered a calf injury during a Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt and was replaced in the second half.
Inter said that examinations revealed a “muscle strain in the soleus of his left leg” and that the striker’s condition “will be reassessed next week.”
Sky Sport and Corriere dello Sport claim that Lautaro Martinez will be forced to the sidelines for three to four weeks. This means he’ll miss the derby against Milan on the weekend of March 8.
Gazzetta, however, suggests that Inter hope their best scorer this season will return in time for the derby, missing the next four matches against Lecce and Genoa in Serie A, Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League, and Como in Coppa Italia.
Lautaro Martinez has scored 18 goals and provided four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.
