Memorial, McMaster lead women’s standings; Carleton alone atop men’s competition
The playoff picture will come into focus Friday at the 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships, with first place on the line in both competitions and multiple teams still battling for coveted semifinal spots heading into the final day of round-robin play at the Caledonian Curling Club in Regina.
Memorial and McMaster lead the way with 4-1 records on the women’s side. McMaster has won three consecutive games after dropping a tight 5-4 decision to Memorial on Tuesday afternoon, following that loss up with a 7-6 win over Guelph and then with victories over both Queen’s and Regina on Thursday. McMaster cruised to a 12-5 win over Queen’s in the afternoon draw, then hung on for a 6-5 win over host Regina in the evening draw. Memorial hadn’t lost entering Thursday’s action, but dropped a 7-6 decision to Regina before recovering for a 9-5 victory over Guelph.
Alberta and Regina both sit at 3-2 through Thursday with Guelph and New Brunswick just behind at 2-3.
Carleton remains perfect with a 5-0 record after the third day of competition. After wins over Regina, Calgary, and Alberta to start the event, the Ravens rolled to an 8-0 victory over York on Thursday afternoon and then scored a pair in the eighth end to finish off Dalhousie by a 6-4 score in the evening draw. Carleton finishes off the round robin on Friday with games against Memorial and Wilfrid Laurier.
Memorial sits alone in second place on the men’s side with a 4-1 record. The Seahawks took out Regina by a 5-1 score on Thursday afternoon, then held on for a 6-5 nine-end victory over Wilfrid Laurier in what was the final match of the evening to conclude. Besides the showdown with Carleton on Friday afternoon, Memorial will also face Dalhousie on the last day of the round robin.
Alberta and Calgary are both 3-2, with Wilfrid Laurier at 2-3 after the late setback to Memorial. Dalhousie, Regina, and York are all 1-4 entering Friday.
The championships feature eight U SPORTS men’s teams and eight women’s teams competing in round-robin play through Friday. Draws on the final day of the round robin are set for 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. local time at the Callie.
