Day 3 at the CCAA Curling Championship
Men’s Division
Assiniboine Cougars 5, SAIT Trojans 4 The Assiniboine Cougars pulled off a gritty comeback win after trailing 3-0 early in the match. While the SAIT Trojans controlled the first half, Assiniboine chipped away at the lead and dominated the final three ends to secure a one-point victory.
Humber Hawks 7, NAIT Ooks 4 The Humber Hawks maintained a steady edge over the NAIT Ooks, opening with a deuce and never looking back. Although NAIT managed a two-point sixth end to keep things interesting, Humber shut the door with two points in the eighth to wrap up the win.
Women’s Division
Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 7, PacWest 2 It was a clinical performance for the Red Deer Queens, who blew the game open with a three-point fourth end. The PacWest offense struggled to find a rhythm, and after the Queens added more points in the sixth and seventh, the match was conceded before the final end.
Niagara Knights 9, Mohawk Mountaineers 6 This high-scoring battle saw the Niagara Knights use a big final end to fend off a Mohawk comeback. After the Mountaineers tied the game with a three-point seventh end, the Knights responded with three of their own in the eighth to seal the victory.
Men’s Division
Gaillards du Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 10, Concordia Thunder 5 The Gaillards secured a dominant victory fueled by a massive five-point performance in the fourth end. While the Concordia Thunder attempted a response with three points in the fifth, they couldn’t overcome the early deficit. The Gaillards added two insurance points in the seventh to end the game 10-5.
Sault College 6, Mohawk Mountaineers 3 Sault College utilized a strong first half to pull away from the Mohawk Mountaineers. Scoring two points in both the second and fourth ends, Sault established a lead that Mohawk’s late-game singles couldn’t match. The match concluded after seven ends with a final score of 6-3.
Women’s Division
SAIT Trojans 7, Concordia Thunder 6 In a back-and-forth thriller, the SAIT Trojans narrowly edged out the Concordia Thunder. Concordia surged ahead with three points in the fourth end, but SAIT responded with consecutive deuces in the fifth and sixth to reclaim the lead. A single point in the seventh proved to be the difference-maker in this 7-6 finish.
Humber Hawks 13, Assiniboine Cougars 1 The Humber Hawks delivered a powerhouse performance, ending their match against the Assiniboine Cougars early. Humber opened with a three-point first end and never let up, recording multiple-point scores in nearly every frame. The Cougars were held to just a single point in the fifth before the match was conceded at 13-1.
Men’s Division
NAIT Ooks 9, Gaillards du Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 4 The NAIT Ooks took control of this match in the middle frames, highlighted by a massive four-point score in the fourth end. While the Gaillards attempted to rally with three points in the fifth, the Ooks remained steady, adding singles in the sixth and seventh to secure the 9-4 win.
Sault College 6, Assiniboine Cougars 4 Sault College utilized a big fourth end of their own, scoring four points to break open a defensive battle. The Assiniboine Cougars fought back with two points in the sixth and a single in the eighth, but Sault’s early lead proved too large to overcome, resulting in a 6-4 final.
Women’s Division
SAIT Trojans 9, Mohawk Mountaineers 2 The SAIT Trojans put on an offensive clinic, scoring in each of the first four ends to jump out to a commanding 7-0 lead. The Mohawk Mountaineers managed to put two points on the board in the fifth, but SAIT promptly responded with a deuce in the sixth, ending the game early.
Concordia Thunder 15, Humber Hawks 2 In the most lopsided match of the draw, the Concordia Thunder dominated from the first rock, opening the game with a staggering six points. They continued the onslaught with three in the third and four in the fifth, leading the Humber Hawks to concede after just five ends with the score at 15-2.
Men’s Division
Mohawk Mountaineers 8, SAIT Trojans 7 The Mohawk Mountaineers pulled off a thrilling comeback victory against the SAIT Trojans. After falling behind 5-0 early, Mohawk exploded for five points in the third end and another in the fourth to take the lead. Although SAIT fought back to tie the game, Mohawk secured the win with two points in the final frame.
Humber Hawks 9, Concordia Thunder 3 The Humber Hawks delivered a dominant performance to defeat the Concordia Thunder. Humber took control in the middle ends, highlighted by a massive four-point third end followed by three more in the fifth. Concordia was held to single points throughout the match, leading to a handshake after six ends.
Women’s Division
PacWest 9, Assiniboine Cougars 0 In a one-sided affair, PacWest shut out the Assiniboine Cougars in just five ends. PacWest scored in every single frame, including three points in the second and two-point scores in both the first and fourth ends. The Cougars were unable to find the scoreboard before the match concluded early.
Niagara Knights 7, Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 4 The Niagara Knights used a consistent scoring attack to overcome the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens. Niagara built their lead with back-to-back deuces in the fourth and fifth ends. While the Queens attempted a late rally with three points over the sixth and seventh ends, the Knights added an insurance single in the eighth to seal the 7-4 win.
