Day 2 at the CCAA Curling Championship

PACWEST 11 v Niagara Knights 2 (Women’s)

Niagara looked to set the tone early, but it was the PACWEST who effectively put the game out of reach in the opening half. PACWEST followed up a massive four-point second end with a clinical three-point steal in the third to take a commanding lead. Niagara was unable to find its way back into the match, and PACWEST coasted to an 11–2 victory after a dominant six ends of play.

Gaillards du Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 8 – SAIT Trojans 5 (Men’s) 

The Gaillards secured an 8–5 victory over the Trojans after building an early lead and maintaining control throughout the match. A four-point fourth end proved decisive for the Gaillards. The Trojans battled back with points in the second, third, sixth, and seventh ends, but were unable to close the gap as the Gaillards closed out the win.

Assiniboine Cougars 11  v Concordia Thunder 4 (Men’s) 

Assiniboine earned an 11–4 win over Concordia, using a big five-point third end to take control of the game early. Concordia opened the scoring in the second end and added a few in the fourth and sixth, but Assiniboine responded with consistent scoring throughout, including a three-point seventh end to put the game out of reach.

Concordia Thunder 11 – Assiniboine Cougars 2 (Women’s)

The Concordia Thunder women cruised to an 11–2 victory over the Assiniboine Cougars women. After conceding a single in the first and third end, Concordia quickly took control with a three-point fourth end and a four-point seventh end. The Cougars failed to  slow down the Thunder’s dominant performance.

Humber Hawks 6  – Sault Cougars 4  (Men’s)

The Humber Hawks men came away with a 6–4 win over the Sault Cougars in a hard-fought, contentious match. Humber built momentum with a three-point fifth end, while the Cougars battled back with points in the second, eighth, and a two-point sixth end. Despite the back-and-forth play, the Hawks held on to secure the victory.

SAIT Trojans 10  – Humber Hawks 3  (Women’s)

The SAIT Trojans women dominated the Humber Hawks women with a 10–3 victory. The Trojans jumped out early with a five-point first end and added consistent scoring in the second and sixth ends. Humber managed singles in the third, fourth, and sixth ends, but it wasn’t enough to challenge SAIT’s commanding performance.

Mohawk Mountaineers 5 – Nait OOKS 2  (Men’s)

The Mohawk Mountaineers claimed a 5–2 victory over the NAIT Ooks, maintaining defensive control for the entire match. Mohawk steadily built their lead with a single in the third end before breaking the game open with a decisive three-point fifth. While the Ooks managed to claw back two points in the seventh end, the Mountaineers’ efficient play in the early ends proved insurmountable, handing NAIT their first loss of the event.

Red Deer Queens 7 – Mohawk Mountaineers 3 (Women’s)

The Red Deer Polytechnic women earned a 7–3 victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers women. Red Deer built momentum early with points in the first, second, and third ends, while Mohawk scored singles in the fourth, fifth, and sixt ends. Consistent scoring and strong play helped Red Deer maintain control and secure the win.

Nait Ooks 6 – CUE 5 (Men’s)

NAIT Ooks earned a narrow 6–5 victory over CUE in a game that came down to the final end. After a scoreless first end, CUE opened the scoring with two in the second. NAIT responded with a single in the third but trailed 3–1 after CUE added one in the fourth. NAIT delivered a pivotal three-point end to swing momentum in their favour and added one in the eighth and ninth to come out on top.

Niagara Knights 14 – Assiniboine Cougars 1 (Women’s)

Niagara women’s team delivered a commanding 14–1 victory over the Assiniboine Cougars.Niagara set the tone early with four in the first end and followed it up with a massive six-point second end to take full control. After Assiniboine got on the board with a single in the third, Niagara continued to apply pressure, adding one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and another in the sixth. With a 14–1 lead, the game concluded early, as Niagara’s explosive start and consistent execution proved too much for the Cougars to overcome.

Sault Cougars 8 – SAIT Trojans 4 (Men’s)

The Sault Cougars slid to an 8–4 victory over the SAIT Trojans in a well-executed performance. SAIT opened the scoring with a single in the first, but Sault answered with two in the second to take the lead. The Trojans added another point in the third, while the Cougars continued to build momentum with a pair in the fourth. After SAIT picked up two in the fifth to close the gap, Sault seized control in the sixth with a decisive three-point end and added one more in the seventh to secure the win. 

RDP Queens 7 – SAIT Trojans 4.  (Women’s)

RDP started off strong with three in the first and the Trojans responded quickly scoring two in the second end and added singles in the third and fifth to keep the game close. Meanwhile, the Queens steadily built their lead with points in the fourth, sixth, and seventh ends. A strong middle-game push and timely scoring helped RDP keep the lead  and secure the 7–4 win.

PACWEST 4 – CUE 3  (Women’s)

PacWest maintained their perfect record with a 4–3 victory over CUE. CUE opened the scoring with a single in the third end and added another in two in the sixth to stay close. PacWest steadily built their lead with singles in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth ends. PacWest’s consistent play secured the 4–3 win, keeping their perfect streak alive.

Humber Hawks 8 – Gaillards du Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 6 (Men’s)

On the men’s side, the Humber Hawks bounced back for an 8–6 victory over the Gaillards in a high-scoring affair. Humber opened the game with strong early ends, but Gaillard stayed close, trading points through the middle of the match. The Hawks pulled ahead with a big sixth end, while Gaillard added singles to keep the game within reach. Timely scoring and consistent execution down the stretch allowed Humber to secure the 8–6 win, giving them the lead in the standings with a perfect record.

Mohawk Mountaineers 8- Humber Hawks 2 (Women’s)

The Mohawk Mountaineers rolled to an 8–2 victory over the Humber Hawks in a dominant performance. Humber opened the scoring with a single in the first end, but Mohawk responded immediately, taking control with a steady offensive push in the middle ends. The Mountaineers built a commanding lead and finished strong to secure the 8–2 win.

Assiniboine Cougars 8 – Mohawk Mountaineers men’s 2 (Men’s)

Assiniboine Cougars skated to an 8–2 victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers. The Cougars jumped out early with two in the first end, taking the lead. Mohawk responded with a single in the second, but Assiniboine quickly regained control with multiple-point ends in the third, fifth, and sixth. Consistent scoring and strong strategic play allowed the Cougars to build a commanding lead and secure the 8–2 win.
