Prince Andrew Was Arrested, Most People Have Never Read What Virginia Giuffre Actually Wrote About Him
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested Thursday at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The arrest is linked to allegations that he shared confidential material with Jeffrey Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy. Thames Valley Police confirmed they are also searching properties in Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the investigation. Andrew, who had his royal titles stripped last year, denies any wrongdoing and remains in police custody.
In her memoir Nobody’s Girl, the late Virginia Giuffre describes the first time she met Prince Andrew at Ghislaine Maxwell’s London townhouse when she was seventeen years old:
“Guess Jenna’s age,” she urged the prince, after she introduced me. The Duke of York, who was then forty-one, guessed correctly: seventeen. “My daughters are just a little younger than you,” he told me, explaining his accuracy. As usual, Maxwell was quick with a joke: “I guess we will have to trade her in soon.”
The group went to dinner and then to an exclusive London nightclub called Tramp, where Andrew bought her a cocktail and asked her to dance. On the way home, Maxwell gave Giuffre her instructions: “When we get home, you are to do for him what you do for Jeffrey.”
Giuffre writes that Andrew acted “as if he believed having sex with me was his birthright.” The encounter lasted less than half an hour. The next morning, Maxwell told her: “You did well. The prince had fun.” Epstein later paid Giuffre $15,000.
Giuffre describes a second sexual encounter with Andrew at Epstein’s New York townhouse.
The third time, Giuffre says, took place on Epstein’s private island, Little Saint James. This time it was not just the two of them. She described it as an orgy involving Andrew, Epstein, herself, and approximately eight other young girls who “all seemed and appeared to be under the age of eighteen and didn’t really speak English.” According to Giuffre, Epstein “laughed about how they couldn’t really communicate, saying they are the easiest girls to get along with.” She says the other girls were supplied by Jean-Luc Brunel, the French modeling agent who was also in attendance. Flight logs from Epstein’s pilot suggest the encounter may have occurred around July 4, 2001, meaning Giuffre may have still been seventeen.
Shortly after returning to New York, Giuffre suffered a medical emergency with severe abdominal bleeding and was rushed to the hospital. Epstein accompanied her and lied about her birthdate, telling staff she was born in 1982 instead of 1983, so she would appear to be eighteen.
In 2021, Giuffre sued Andrew in U.S. federal court for sexual assault. Andrew denied all allegations. The case was settled out of court in February 2022, with Andrew making a reported multimillion-pound payment while continuing to deny wrongdoing. He was never criminally charged over Giuffre’s allegations, but lost his royal duties, titles, and public role over his friendship with Epstein and Maxwell.
