‘Somebody that loved our country’: Trump honors ‘great man’ Rush Limbaugh on 5th anniversary of radio legend’s death
PALM BEACH, Florida – President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised talk-radio legend Rush Limbaugh on the fifth anniversary of the death of the conservative Palm Beach powerhouse.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump recorded a video in which he said: “This is the fifth anniversary of the loss of a really great man, a great conservative, somebody that loved our country, loved his family, loved a lot of things, but he was a friend of mine. Rush Limbaugh.”
“I’d never met Rush when I announced that I was running. I’ll never forget, 2015, and I got a call, all excited, that Rush Limbaugh just endorsed you. I never met him. He liked my opening speech.
“He liked when I got up in June, and I said, ‘You know, we got bad borders, we got bad crime, we got bad everything.’ And he liked it. I came down the escalator with now our first lady. And he thought it was great and he endorsed me and then I got to know him and realized what a great guy he was.
“But it’s five years that we miss Rush. As Sean Hannity would often say, there will never be another Rush Limbaugh. So to his family, his great wife and family, I just wanna say we miss you all, we miss him, and there’ll never be anybody like him.”

In May 2024, a clip of Limbaugh recorded years earlier went viral on social media, as the radio giant voiced the reasons dark forces in America wanted Trump “gone.”
“I know they desperately want Trump gone, and I know that they desperately want it codified that Trump cannot run again, because make no mistake, they remain scared to death of you and they remain scared to death of Trump,” Limbaugh explained.
“They can’t separate you from Trump. And, more importantly, they can’t separate you from the ideas. They can’t separate you from MAGA. They can’t separate you from Make America Great Again, which I think remains one of our big campaign strengths going forward.

On Feb. 4 2020, President Trump surprised Limbaugh by awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the State of the Union address.

In one of his final shows, as WorldNetDaily reported, Limbaugh sounded an ominous warning for the U.S., saying with the political divide in America continuing to increase, the nation is moving toward secession.
“I actually think that we’re trending toward secession,” he said on his Dec. 9, 2020, broadcast.
“There cannot be a peaceful coexistence of two completely different theories of life, theories of government, theories of how we manage our affairs. We can’t be in this dire a conflict without something giving somewhere along the way.”
“I know that there’s a sizable and growing sentiment for people who believe that that is where we’re headed whether we want to or not. Whether we want to go there or not.”
Limbaugh stressed that he himself had not made up his mind on the issue.
“I still haven’t given up the idea that we are the majority and that all we have to do is find a way to unite and win,” he explained.
“Our problem is the fact that there are just so many RINOs, so many Republicans in the Washington establishment who will do anything to maintain their membership in the establishment because of the perks and the opportunities that are presented for their kids and so forth.”
“I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York, especially if you’re talking about votes.
“I see a lot of bloggers – I can’t think of names right now – a lot of bloggers have written extensively about how distant and separated and how much more separated our culture is becoming politically and that it can’t go on this way.”
