Tim Tebow Shows Us People With Down Syndrome Deserve Love
In a world that often measures worth by ability, productivity, or perfection, events like “A Night to Shine” stand as a powerful reminder that every human life holds inherent value.
This annual prom night for individuals with special needs, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, transforms churches across the nation—and the globe—into vibrant celebrations of joy, dignity, and unconditional love.
Last month, we at Florida Right to Life were honored to have Tim Tebow as the main speaker for our 2026 Gala along with Senator Ashley Moody, Congressman Byron Donalds, Lt Governor Jay Collins, former Speaker of the Florida House, Paul Renner along with many other elected officials. It was an event that will be long remembered.
What began as a simple idea in 2015 to honor people with disabilities has blossomed into a worldwide movement, now spanning over 76 countries and involving more than 975 host churches.
In 2026 alone, over 120,000 adults with special needs were treated like Queens and Kings as they walked the red carpets to great applause by volunteers celebrating their worth. They danced the night away and were celebrated for who they are— Children of God.

Founded by Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, whose own faith-driven journey has inspired millions, the Tim Tebow Foundation embodies a mission to bring faith, hope, and love to those in their darkest hours. The foundation not only addresses physical needs but also shares the Gospel, affirming the God-given worth of every individual, regardless of their challenges.
This night is so special to my family as my husband’s sister is a precious special needs adult with Down syndrome. It is a joy to see her smiling face as she walks the red carpet. Seeing her along with hundreds of special adults chokes me up and brings me to tears!
“A Night to Shine” is more than a party; it’s a declaration that people with special needs are not “burdens” but blessings, integral to the fabric of our communities and the body of Christ. Guests, aged 14 and older, experience a night tailored to them—complete with limousine rides, beauty stations, and a crowning ceremony that reminds them they are royalty in God’s eyes.
This ethos aligns seamlessly with the mission of Florida Right to Life, an organization dedicated to protecting and valuing life from conception to natural death. In Florida, where events like “A Night to Shine” light up churches across the state, the pro-life community sees this as a natural
extension of their advocacy.
By honoring adults with special needs— many of whom face societal marginalization—Florida Right to Life underscores that life’s value isn’t diminished by disabilities or differences. Instead, these individuals enrich our world, teaching us about resilience, joy, and pure love.
The Tebow Foundation’s initiative reinforces the pro-life principle that every person, created in God’s image, deserves celebration and support, not exclusion or elimination.
Yet this message of inclusion stands in stark contrast to practices in many parts of the world, where the lives of those with Down syndrome are systematically devalued before they even begin. In Iceland, nearly 100% of pregnancies diagnosed with Down syndrome are “terminated.” Denmark follows closely behind with a 98% termination rate. Countries like France (around 77%-85%), Spain (83%), and the UK (90%) also exhibit alarmingly high rates of selective abortion for this condition.
These statistics reveal a troubling trend: a societal shift toward viewing certain lives as disposable based on genetic traits. From a pro-life perspective, this is not progress but a profound loss. It denies the unique gifts and humanity that individuals with Down syndrome bring to families and societies.
“A Night to Shine” offers a better way forward, one rooted in affirmation rather than rejection. As Tim Tebow himself has
emphasized, this event transcends cultures and languages,
communicating God’s love to those often overlooked.
In Florida and beyond, pro-life advocates applaud this as a model for how we can build communities that cherish every life. By supporting such initiatives, we affirm that challenges do not define worth; love does.
Let’s continue to shine a light on the beauty of all lives, ensuring that no one is left in the shadows.
