Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” is getting attention again!
The 2012 song, said to be inspired by her divorce from Russell Brand, was co-written with Katy by Bonnie McKee, Cirkut, Max Martin, Dr. Luke.
The song was featured on 2012′s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, written for her movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me. It ended up hitting No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
And now, it’s having a moment again in 2026!

TikTok users have started a harmonizing trend with the track’s bridge, singing along with their own harmonies and showing off their voices. In some cases, users are using the song to mock certain influencers who appear to be using note auto-corrector Melodyne and/or Auto-Tune in their renditions.
The trend got so popular, even Katy joined in to harmonize with herself!
“Thunder rumbling, castles crumbling (I’m wide awake) / I am tryin’ to hold on (I’m wide awake) / God knows that I tried seeing the bright side (I’m wide awake) / But I’m not blind anymore,” she sings on the bridge.
“Well, this song, I have a lot of different emotions and feelings in all of my songs. This song in particular is a dose of reality. It’s kind of like coming down from a high. You’ve been on cloud nine for so long, and it can’t always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you’re stronger because of it,” she said of the song’s meaning years ago to MTV.
