While awarding the best earbuds and headphones can feel more personally biased with fit and feel being so subjective, finding the best speakers for your home also comes with a catch: room acoustics. I set out to spotlight the strongest contenders across a handful of categories (e.g. standing, portable, surround sound, waterproof, and more) for the 2026 Men's Journal Tech Awards.
While my living room's dimensions aren't the same as yours, I factored spacial realism, ease of connectivity, sound quality, power and performance, audio formats, design, and value for the price of dozens of speakers to recommend the best overall.
Cambridge Evo One came out on top if you're seeking a stellar all-in-one wireless streaming speaker that's minimalist and unobtrusive in size, but provides powerful and multi-dimensional room integration.
Why Cambridge Evo One Is the Best Speaker Overall
Like sound emanating through a forest, Cambridge Evo One reproduces music that feels organic and resonant. The drums on "Let Down" by Radiohead filled my living room using 14 internal speakers and 700 watts of power. I loved the old-school VU meters that move in time with the music, never redlining when I played the latest album by operatic flamenco artist Rosalía. The walnut cabinet—about half the size of a soundbar—also looks like a piece of art. It doesn’t overwhelm the room or force you to run speaker wire everywhere.
Setup involves customizing the all-in-one wireless speaker to your room, adapting to not just the size but the acoustics and how close the Evo One is to the wall. A HDMI port lets you connect the speaker to your television. You can stream over a high-res app like Tidal or Deezer over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, or Internet Radio.
Bonus: You can connect up a turntable as well, just in case you need a Fleetwood Mac fix. My favorite test was with the song "Want Want" by Maggie Rogers, rattling in a good way off the walls, the carpet, and my own body.
