Michigan star feels ‘really bad’ about viral video taunting Purdue
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
The spirit of competition can make players do and say things that they may regret later on. That was the case for Michigan’s star forward Yaxel Lendeborg after a viral video hit the internet of him taunting Big Ten rival Purdue.
“When we see Purdue we gonna spank they f*cking ass,” he said in the video. “We gonna beat they f*cking ass. F*ck Purdue.”
While some may see or understand it as the fires of competitiveness between rival programs, Lendeborg himself isn’t thrilled about the way the video represents who he is.
“The most disappointing part of it is that he feels really bad about how he’s perceived from children and those that look up to him,” Michigan head coach Dusty May said. “He said, ‘Coach, I don’t even use that language in conversation. I don’t like the way it makes me look. I feel terrible about it.’ And then obviously how he’s perceived to our fan base and those that we care about.”
No. 2 Michigan hasn’t dealt with much adversity all season as they have dominated their competition for the most part with a 24-1 record. They face No. 13 Purdue at Purdue on Tuesday.
