Red Sox’s Roman Anthony Received This Call After Joining Team USA
Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony will be wearing a new uniform throughout the coming weeks.
Anthony officially earned the chance to perform on the international stage, as he was named as an injury replacement for Team USA during next month’s World Baseball Classic after passing his physical on Monday.
Anthony, who is expected to play left field during the tournament, has already received a few calls since being announced as the injury replacement for Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll — including from that of Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman.
“We talked over the phone,” Anthony said on Monday, as transcribed by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. “He wanted to see where I was at and just kind of check in. It will be a great opportunity to take the field with him again.”
Anthony and Bregman became famous friends during their few months as teammates, with the former crediting the latter with much of his early success — which saw the rookie slash .292/.396/.463 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 71 games in 2025.
Now, they’ll get to squeeze in a few more games together.
