Pakistani media reported that the assault began with an explosion and escalated into gunfire, targeting a rescue team transporting injured individuals from a drone incident.

The drone, described as a “quadcopter,” had collided with a lookout post in Tank district, though the cause of the crash remains unclear.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have not confirmed the identities or affiliations of the armed assailants involved.

In recent months, attacks by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reportedly increased, raising concerns about regional security.

Pakistani officials have previously accused Afghan Taliban of supporting and sheltering TTP members, an allegation that the Afghan Taliban have consistently denied.

TTP has a long history of attacks on Pakistani security personnel and infrastructure, frequently exploiting cross-border safe havens in Afghanistan to coordinate operations.
