Man Utd receive injury boost for Everton game with "world-class" star back in training
Manchester United have received an injury boost ahead of the Premier League game against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on February 23.
The Red Devils recently shared the spoils (1-1) away to West Ham United. As a result, they could not extend their four-match league-winning streak.
In the same game, Harry Maguire had an injury scare during the opening half. He was spotted holding his hamstring following a recovery run.
The Englishman managed to continue playing until the 68th minute when Leny Yoro took his place on the right side of central defence.
Yoro has been far from his best in recent months, but the Frenchman made a couple of crucial blocks before United’s late equaliser.
Shortly after the draw, Maguire said that he was ‘alright‘ while leaving the mixed zone.
Any injury fears have been further erased by the Red Devils, who confirmed that Maguire trained with his teammates in yesterday’s session.
Maguire poised to start vs Everton
Maguire, once described as ‘world-class‘ by Adam Lallana, has been a revelation in the heart of the defence since his injury comeback last month.
He was out for a prolonged period after a hamstring setback in November, but made his return to the starting XI under caretaker head coach Michael Carrick.
Some of the club’s faithful questioned the decision, but the 32-year-old has proved his worth and has hardly put a foot wrong in the last five league matches.
Maguire’s current contract expires at the end of June. Talks are ongoing behind the scenes, and he looks increasingly likely to pen an extension with a pay cut.
With United on course to return to European football next season, they will require more defensive depth in the squad. It is a no-brainer to keep Maguire.
He could feature in a rotational role next term, considering Matthijs de Ligt would be the regular centre-back alongside Lisandro Martinez when he is back to full fitness.
