“I want to apologise to our fans for that result and performance”

It was another frustrating afternoon and loss on the road as the Darts came up short at Potters Bar Town on Saturday.

But Ady Pennock made no excuses for the performance which he admitted was ‘poor.’

He said: “I’m very disappointed with the result.

“The first half just wasn’t good enough. Too many players started slowly and on the back foot. There was no thought and care in our passing. The decision making was poor.

“Many players should have played another pass instead of just lumping the ball into poor areas. An extra pass was the better choice. In the final third we were on our heels and not anticipating where the ball was going.”

The manager wanted to try something different at the start of the match to combat the poor away form. Unfortunately, it didn’t work and Ady made a change early in the half.

He continued: “Our away form is not good enough and I wanted to change things to combat this. I went with a three at the back but soon changed it to four after a very poor start. I took Michael off as he got an early yellow card and also to change our system.”

Another area that was a frustration was the decision-making in the final third.

He said: “Their keeper wasn’t tested enough for me. He did make a good save against Sam, but other than Dave Winfield’s header against the bar, we didn’t do enough to test the keeper or create good opportunities. Yes, their defenders made some good blocks when it looked like we could score, but there still were not enough end products for me.”

Ady brought in two new loanees and wanted to freshen up the team that has been hot and cold in recent matches. They provided some positives.

He continued: “I was very pleased with Dave Winfield throughout, both in defence and attack. It was a very good debut.

“Young Rohan worked tirelessly and should be pleased with his debut, too. There’s still a lot more to come from him in my opinion.”

Ady added that Samir missed the game with an injured knee and Jacob broke his nose during the match.

But he had this to say to the supporters.

He added: “I want to apologise to our fans for that result and performance.

“They give their time and pay good money through travel, food and drink. It wasn’t good enough and not what we train to do.

“There’s still a lot of football to play, but I want to tell all our supporters that me, my staff and players will give blood sweat and tears for them and the club.

“All our games from now on in are big games. It doesn’t matter who we play, they are big games. We need them all to keep backing us home and away. There’s a lot of games to play and it’s all still to play for.”
