Stephen Curry commits to 2027 All-Star 3-point contest
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry said Sunday he will compete in the 3-point shooting competition during the 2027 All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.
Curry made the announcement from the NBC television set prior to Sunday's All-Star Game in Inglewood, Calif. As part of his appearance, Curry lofted a shot approximately 40 feet from the basket - to the right of the hoop and slightly behind the baseline -- and it swished through the net.
"One hundred percent," Curry said of being an entrant in Phoenix. "I already scheduled it."
Curry is a two-time champion in the event, but last appeared in 2021 when he claimed his second title. He also won in 2015.
Curry, 37, said he will attempt to persuade former teammate Klay Thompson to compete. Thompson now plays for the Dallas Mavericks.
Curry, who holds the NBA record of 4,233 regular-season 3-pointers and 650 postseason treys, did not suit up for Sunday's All-Star Game due to a knee injury.
Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers won the 3-point event on Saturday to join Larry Bird (1986-88) and Craig Hodges (1990-92) as three-time winners. Lillard hasn't played since tearing his Achilles on April 27, but he had no issues while winning Saturday's competition.
Lillard also won the event in 2023 and 2024.
