Lindor, Soto Arrive For Spring Training, Each Speak With Media
New York Mets superstars Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor reported for spring training on Sunday. In doing so, they each spoke to attending media.
One of the larger storylines of the media was the Mets and slugger Pete Alonso parting ways in free agency. Soto was asked just that and quickly pointed out the addition of Bo Bichette. “He’s a great hitter. He can hit homers and hit for average. Thats great protection,” Soto said of his new teammate.
Soto also spoke on his positional change to left field in lieu of right. Soto explained the conversations started between he and manager Carlos Mendoza in the context of the World Baseball Classic. Soto will be playing left field in the WBC for the Dominican Republic. He ended the topic with confirming, “Him [Mendoza] and David [Stearns] started taking about it, as a team, and came up with it.”
Lastly, Soto was asked about the 2025 clubhouse dynamic and he said that since it’s in the past, the team will forget about it. He was also asked about his relationship with Francisco Lindor and called the relationship “great” and added how they, “talk all the time in the games, we help each other.”
As for Lindor, of course the attention was drawn to his hamate bone fracture. Lindor did confirm he been dealing with issues with the bone over the years. He confirmed he is very optimistic” that he will be ready for Opening Day.
Lindor, like Soto, was also asked about the 2025 clubhouse. Here is what he said, courtesy of SNY Mets on X:
“Are we all best friends? That’s not how it works in the clubhouse. But we are friends – we’re good teammates, we care for each other, we love each other, and we want the best for each other.”
The Mets’ first spring training game is February 21.
