HUH? AOC Gives Word Salad About Inequality, Suggests Marco Rubio is Racist for Saying Cowboys Came From Spain – “I Believe The Mexicans and Descendants of African slaves Would Like to Have a Word” (VIDEO)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made a fool out of herself once again while speaking on income inequality during an event on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Sunday.

While speaking at a TU Berlin event with German Bundestag member Isabel Cademartori, AOC was asked about her comments regarding wealth redistribution and taxing the rich, which she had made on Saturday, and she randomly pointed to remarks by Marco Rubio about Cowboy culture coming from Spain.

While speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Rubio highlighted the spiritual and cultural connections between America and Europe. Rubio noted that America began with Christopher Columbus,  the legend that defined the imagination of our pioneer nation,” bringing Christianity to the new world. He further described how English settlers brought their language and political and legal systems, how the Scots-Irish brought the American pioneer spirit, and how German farmers and craftsmen sparked an agricultural boom in the early days of America.

“Our expansion into the interior followed the footsteps of French fur traders and explorers whose names, by the way, still adorn the street signs and towns’ names all across the Mississippi Valley. Our horses, our ranches, our rodeos – the entire romance of the cowboy archetype that became synonymous with the American West – these were born in Spain. And our largest and most iconic city was named New Amsterdam before it was named New York,” Rubio said.

This was AOC’s “favorite part” from the Cuban Secretary of State’s speech, which was rightfully, as she put it, “a pure appeal to Western culture.”

“He said that American cowboys came from Spain,” she reminded the audience. “I believe the Mexicans and descendants of African slave— enslaved peoples would like to have a word on that.”

However, it is well documented that Spanish conquistadors and missionaries heavily colonized Mexico and the Southwest region of the United States in the 16th century. Spanish vaqueros were the inspiration of the cowboy culture in the Southwest, not Mexicans or slaves.

She then went on a confusing tirade about the changing culture, aka race and demographics, as millions of unvetted aliens are shipped into the once-predominantly White United States and Europe, and demanded an end to “the hypocrisy towards the global south.”

“That is a challenge that is difficult for much of the typical crowd at Munich to hear,” she said before pivoting to the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and claiming that the US kidnapped him and engaged in “acts of war” against Venezuela, solely because “the nation is below the equator.”

Her hilarious comments follow her complete faceplant when asked a simple question about foreign policy at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.

Transcript:

Cademartori: You alluded to the fact that Germany indeed has a pretty strong welfare state, stronger than the US. We have minimum wage, universal health care, no university tuition, strong labor protections. So, while the German working class is, in general, more protected in an economic sense, it also is dealing with the growing inequality because we have seen real wage growth has been stagnant. The amassment of wealth in the hands of very few and corporations is increasing. So, even though the safeguarding is a bit higher, the relative inequality is increasing and is at the root, like you said, of this polarization. So, you made the case in Munich also for fighting this amassment of wealth in the hands of few. I’m curious, how did the good people of Munich react for you to make the case for more wealth distribution.

Cortez: Yes, well, I was on the populist panel, which was very funny. You know, I think, I think that there, there were differing dynamics, of course, in Munich, and one is that you are starting to see the ascent of the right, even in places like Munich. Marco Rubio’s speech was a pure appeal to Western culture. My favorite part was when he said that American cowboys came from Spain. I believe the Mexicans and descendants of African slave— enslaved peoples would like to have a word on that. But, you know, I think it’s also important to note how thin that foundation is.

Culture is changing. Culture always changed. Culture, for the entire history of human civilization, has been a fluid, evolving thing that is a response to the conditions that we live in. And so, they want to take this mantle of culture. At the end of the day, though, is, you know, it is very thin. And so the response that we have to have is, again, it’s material, it’s class-based, it’s common interest.

And so I think what was interesting about the reception is that, I think the old way is realizing that they’ve had their way. They’ve had their economic deals structured exactly the way that they wanted it. They’ve had their, you know, all, all of the ways you can govern, they’ve had their way in doing it, and they are losing ground. And so I think while there’s, uh, there was certainly more openness to what I was saying than probably there would be in years past. We can’t underestimate the appeal of going back to these well-worn grooves. A lot of what we talk about when we talk about a class-based internationalist perspective also means ending the hypocrisy towards the global south.

That is a challenge that is difficult for much of the typical crowd at Munich to hear. You know, we look at what happened in Venezuela, for example, it is not, a uh, it is, it is not a remark on who Maduro was as a leader. He canceled elections. He was an anti-Democratic leader. That doesn’t mean that we can kidnap a head of state and engage in acts of war just because the nation is below the equator.
