Obama Mourns The Loss Of Decorum In First Interview Since Trump’s Racist Video Depicting Him As An Ape
In his first interview since President Trump shared a racist video depicting he and his wife as apes, former President Obama lamented the lack of decorum in today’s leaders. On Brian Tyler Cohen’s YouTube channel, Obama said “There doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and a sense of propriety and respect for the office.”
However, he also reminded viewers that most Americans are “deeply troubled” by Trump’s behavior and still believe in “decency, courtesy, kindness.”
Obama also took the opportunity to speak out against the extreme measures ICE is taking under Trump’s leadership, despite the current president failing to reach even half of Obama’s own deportation numbers.
“The way that federal agents, ICE agents were being deployed, without any clear guidelines, training, pulling people out of their homes, using five-year-olds to try to bait their parents, all the stuff that we saw, teargassing crowds simply who were standing there, not breaking any laws. The rogue behavior of agents of the federal government is deeply concerning and dangerous.”
Obama said ICE entering American citizens’s homes without a warrant and killing American citizens is “a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.”
Do you think it is important that we reclaim some sense of decorum amongst our political leaders? Or is it better that our leaders sound like tough guys, even if it means dividing the country and alienating our allies?
