Actor Abhishek Bachchan Talks on Dad Amitabh, Daughter Aaradhya and Films
New Delhi: Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan on Saturday said his father Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan remains his biggest source of inspiration, both personally and professionally. He revealed that having Amitabh Bachchan “sleeping in the room above” provides him so much inspiration that he doesn’t need to look elsewhere. When asked about being inspired by Hollywood actors like Robert De Niro, Abhishek jokingly remarked that he has to “make do with Amitabh Bachchan” as his source of guidance.
Amitabh Bachchan’s personal views have also influenced Abhishek’s approach to business. He mentioned that, like many Indians, his father is a “big believer in real estate.” This traditional investment mindset is something Abhishek has partially adopted, alongside his more modern ventures into startups as well as sports.
Speaking at the ET Now Global Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi, organized by India’s Times Group, Bachchan on Saturday offered a roadmap for regional industries to achieve global success while maintaining cultural integrity. Representing Bollywood, the world’s largest film industry, producing nearly “a thousand films a year,” he cautioned that attempts to mimic foreign cinematic styles like those of the West or Korea often lead to a loss of competitive advantage.” The minute we compromise our Indianness, I think we lose out,”Abhishek Bachchan stated on Saturday, emphasizing that global audiences are increasingly drawn to authentic storytelling and unique cultural identities.
Abhishek Bachchan decided early in his career that he did not want to be in a position where he had to do films simply to “run the house” because he felt that financial pressure would negatively ‘affect your creative choices.’
Bachchan detailed a conservative but effective entrepreneurial philosophy focused on financial resilience. He revealed that early in his career, he realized the film industry was not a ‘dependable source of income’ due to its reliance on external factors and the volatility of weekly box-office results. To safeguard his creative freedom, he established a “parallel source of income,” allowing him to choose film projects based on art rather than financial necessity. For aspiring business leaders, he offered a simple rule for risk assessment: “If you can’t afford it yourself, don’t get into it.”
Reflecting on his personal drive, Bachchan cited the “unrelenting spirit of an entrepreneur” depicted in his film Guru as a defining theme of his professional life. He said this spirit is fueled by the inspiration he finds at home and the clarity he sees in the younger generation.
Looking toward the future, he expressed deep admiration for the clarity of the younger generation, including his daughter Aaradhya, remarking, “I envy the new generation i think they’re very very sorted.”
Addressing his personal life, Abhishek also spoke about the influence of family, including his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and their daughter Aaradhya Bachchan. He further stated that the clarity and perspective of the younger generation further motivate him to remain grounded and authentic.
