WATCH: Tom Homan Responds to Tim Walz Calling for Federal Government to Pay for “Damage” from ICE Surge – “They Ought to be Saying, Thank You”
Border Czar Tom Homan on Sunday responded to Minnesota officials’ demands for the Trump Administration to pay for so-called damages the state suffered as a result of Operation Metro Surge ICE operations in the state.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Governor Tim Walz on Thursday demanded that the federal government now pay for the “damage” they caused in Minnesota following the Trump Administration’s withdrawal from immigration operations in the state.
This comes after Trump Trump last sent Homan to Minneapolis to deal with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who laid out demands for “swift, significant reduction” in federal agents deployed to Minnesota, and “an end to the campaign of retribution,” and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey who doubled down on his refusal to cooperate with the federal government, announcing on social media that “Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws.”
Operation Metro Surge was then terminated, and hundreds of agents were pulled out of the state.
“The federal government needs to pay for what they broke here,” Walz said. "They are going to be accountability on the things that happen, but one of the things is the incredible and immense costs that were born by the people of this state.”
“They left us with serious damage, generational trauma. They left us with economic ruin in some cases. They left us with many unanswered questions,” Walz added, appearing to imply that the federal government owes money for hurt feelings.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey claimed that the state lost $103 million in "economic impact" in January 2026 alone. One would think that all those out-of-state rioters would stimulate the economy, but apparently not.
Homan appeared on Fox News this morning and slammed the Minnesota officials for their refusal to speak out against the millions of illegal aliens that were allowed into the country to kill American citizens by the Biden Regime, as well as for refusing to allow ICE to arrest violent criminal illegals from jails and prisons.
"They ought to be saying, Thank you," Homan said, noting that Minnesota is "safer" from the ICE operations on the streets.
WATCH:
Jenkins: It appears that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey want to send a bill to the federal government... Tom, your reaction?
Homan: A lot of things were broken, but it wasn't because of the Trump administration. The border, last four years, over 10 million illegal aliens crossed that border. That was broken. Where were they then? Did Governor Walz speak out against that? With the overdose deaths and the sex trafficking and the known and suspected terrorists, no. They broke the border. President Trump fixed the border.
They let millions of people in this country illegally, release kids to unvetted sponsors. President Trump's fixing that. And what did the state of Minnesota break? They were a sanctuary state. Their county jails weren't working with us across the state. So, you know what? We fixed it. They ought to be saying, Thank you. The state's safer because of that. And President Trump gets another win. President Trump gets a win every day. Every day he's winning, and I'm just proud to be a small part of this administration.
