WINTER OLYMPICS CONDOM CONTROVERSY: Athletes Burn Through Supplies in Just 3 Days — Organizers Scramble to Refill on Valentine’s Day

Well, this wasn’t exactly the kind of Olympic record anyone was expecting.

Athletes competing in the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics reportedly blew through the entire supply of free condoms in the Olympic Village in just three days, forcing organizers into a last-minute scramble to restock the contraceptives, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

According to multiple reports out of Italy, fewer than 10,000 condoms were initially distributed to approximately 2,800–3,000 athletes participating in this year’s Games, and the entire stockpile vanished within 72 hours.

For context, the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics distributed a whopping 300,000 condoms to its athletes, roughly two per day per competitor.

In contrast, Milano-Cortina organizers handed out barely a fraction of that amount… and apparently underestimated the “social stamina” of the world’s elite competitors.

International Olympic Committee spokesperson Mark Adams later confirmed that roughly 10,000 condoms had already been snapped up by athletes living in the Village accommodations.

Officials are now rushing fresh shipments into all Olympic housing facilities ahead of Valentine’s Day weekend after admitting demand had been “higher-than-anticipated.”

The condoms provided to Olympic athletes, even branded with the Olympic rings, are what is called a “established tradition” that began in 1988 in Seoul to raise awareness of sexually transmitted disease prevention among athletes and young people. The Milan-Cortina Olympics are no exception, and the supplies even bear the Lombardy Region logo. Governor Attilio Fontana has also spoken out in favor of safe sex , specifying that “if this seems strange to anyone, they are unaware of the Olympic practice. It is an issue that should not cause embarrassment.”

And yet, Milan and Cortina don’t seem the least bit embarrassed about talking about sex; on the contrary, they’re not even close . Condoms seemed in short supply from the start—three per athlete in total, compared to two per day in Paris— and in fact, they’re already sold out. But the “third half” isn’t just for athletes. Another sector is experiencing surges and record numbers: adult entertainment. Milan has seen a 23 percent increase, followed by Cortina D’Ampezzo, a 12 percent increase, Valtellina (Bormio and Livigno), a 6 percent increase, and Val di Fiemme and Anterselva, a 3 percent increase.
