“This is shameful and shocking news. Lord forgive her, for she knows not what she does,” the mom texted her daughter.
She continued, adding, “Fornication is a sin and we did NOT raise you to throw away your life like this. We tried SO hard to steer you down the right path and then you’ve let liberalism take over. Your father will be hearing about this.”
Upset, the mom-to-be replied and stood up for herself, writing, “I am not a child anymore mom. I am no longer the spineless little girl who was once 2 scared to even tell her parents she was on her period.”
“I’ll kick u out of our lives if it means we are happy and my baby is healthy. I called u thinking you’d be happy but I thought wrong, huh?” she added.
Her mom’s response was to “curse [her] to a thousand hells.”
In her post, the woman wrote that she blocked her mom and “preemptively blocked my dad bc he’s just as crazy.”
She noted that her parents grew up in “strict Christian households” and “never grew out of it.”
“Honestly I don’t care if I lose them both. I have a bundle of joy on the way and a loving partner. Besides…I’m an adult and it’s about time I start taking control of my own life,” she concluded.
She wanted to know if her reaction was appropriate, and many fellow Redditors rushed to assure her that she was in the right.
“Dude the best thing I ever did was cut contact with my parents at 25,” one person reflected, adding, “I’m 33 now and just recently started talking to them again. They are way more respectful when they know I will just disappear from their life if they don’t respect my boundaries.”
Another person wrote that they were shocked a parent would speak like that to an adult child, saying, “Omg I thought you were a teen by the way she responded (not that that would be ok either), jesus f—— christ, be rid of her and never look back. Congrats on your baby!”
“I’m sorry, but I literally laughed at loud at ‘your father will be hearing about this’. Are you 12? Will he ground you? Take away your iPad?” yet another shocked Redditor wrote. “I’m sorry. I’m sure this is hard, even if you expected it on some level. But good for you for protecting yourself, your baby, and the life you are building now.”
