Canadian men earn two wins, remain undefeated, on Friday at 2026 Olympics

CORTINA d’AMPEZZO, Italy — Canada’s Team Brad Jacobs (3-0) stayed perfect with two wins Friday at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The latest win was a 8-6 victory over reigning Olympic champions, Sweden’s Team Niklas Edin (0-3) during the evening draw at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

The match was close until the eighth end, when Jacobs, vice-skip Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, lead Ben Hebert, alternate Tyler Tardi, team coach Paul Webster, and national coach Jeff Stoughton scored four.

Superb Canadian shot-making forced Edin to attempt a narrow triple that went wide, failing to remove any Canadian counters. Team Jacobs then calmly drew to the house for a big end and seized control of the game.

Canada kept Sweden to two points in the ninth and scored a single in the 10th on a draw for the win.

“Another must-win game against Sweden, you know, to knock them back to 0-3, I think is big for the spiel,” Jacobs said. “They can be very dangerous and lethal, you know, especially at the end of the week.”

The Canadian men have one game on Saturday against Switzerland’s Team Yannick Schwaller (3-0) at 8:05 a.m. (all times Eastern).

Earlier, Canada defeated Team Daniel Casper of the United States (1-2) 6-3. The Americans managed only single points, while Canada capitalized with two in both the fourth and eighth ends.

The throw for two in the fourth was a highlight-reel shot. Team Jacobs navigated a tight port in front of the house and tapped their own stone up for two, firing up the team.

“I just think we’ve done a really good job of detaching ourselves from results and just being in the moment and focusing on the things that need to be focused on in order to execute,” Jacobs said. “And we’ve been saying for quite a while now, this team, the importance of staying loose and playing free.”

Canada’s Team Rachel Homan (1-1) of Ottawa also faced the United States (2-1) on Friday, but with a different result. Canada fell behind after giving up four in the sixth, but battled back to lead by one without hammer in the 10th end.

Homan nearly made a double on her final shot for a chance to force an extra end. The miss left American skip Tabitha Peterson with a draw for two and the win.

“We just had a bad end there,” Fleury said. “It’s hard to win a game when you give up four, but we tried our best to fight back, and I’m really proud of how the team. We stayed focused and calm and put some good ends together after that.”

Homan, vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, lead Sarah Wilkes, alternate Rachelle Brown, team coach Heather Nedohin, and national coach Viktor Kjell have two chances to rebound Saturday.

They open with a 3:05 a.m. game against winless Great Britain (0-2), skipped by Sophie Jackson, followed by a marquee evening matchup with Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni (2-0). Team Homan defeated Tirinzoni in both the 2024 and 2025 World Women’s Championships gold-medal games.
