2026 U SPORTS and CCAA Canadian Curling Championships begin Tuesday in Regina

Some of Canada’s brightest minds and upcoming athletic stars will descend upon the Callie Curling Club in Regina for the 2026 U SPORTS and CCAA Canadian Curling Championships, which kicks off Tuesday, running from Feb. 17-21.

The event, which is divided into separate U SPORTS and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association categories, will crown a Canadian university and college champion in both men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

Eight teams of each gender for both the U SPORTS and CCAA events, totalling 32 teams, will be contending for the Canadian men’s and women’s crowns, with the winner of the U SPORTS event earning the right to represent Canada at the 2027 FISU Winter World University Games in Changchun, China, from Jan. 15-25, 2027.

On the university men’s side, the reigning 2025 champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (Waterloo, Ont.) will be back in the field, skipped by Kibo Mulima, who alongside second Wyatt Small, were members of the 2023 national championship winning squad for skip Sam Mooibroek and hope to carry that experience into a back-to-back win.

The Golden Hawks men are the winningest team in U SPORTS curling history with five titles to its name; with wins in 2025, 2023, 2020, 2016 and 2008.

On the women’s U SPORTS side, the University of Alberta Pandas (Edmonton), skipped by Gracelyn Richards, are back in the field after winning six of the last nine U SPORTS women’s curling titles.

Richards is a first-time skip of the Pandas outfit, but brings an ample sample of national-level curling experience to the field, where her most recent appearance, representing Team Alberta #2 at the 2025 New Holland Canadian Under-20 Curling Championships at Summerside, P.E.I., ended short of the playoffs on a tiebreaker with a 6-2 record.

On the collegiate side, the reigning women’s 2025 CCAA curling champion PACWEST, represented by Langara College (Vancouver), is back in the field and helmed by Emily Bowles; the very same skip that led it to victory last year alongside returning players third Erin Fitzgibbon and lead Lauren Chochrane. The only new player on the PACWEST roster is second Ashley Fenton, as the team looks to collect its second-ever CCAA women’s curling crown.

For the CCAA men, the Mohawk Mountaineers (Hamilton, Ont.) are also back in the field looking to defend its 2025 CCAA men’s curling championship, skipped by Thomas Del Conte, who was alternate for the gold-medallist squadron in 2025.

The Mountaineers will look to continue the CCAA men’s trend of repeat champions in the last six iterations of the championship, after the Concordia Thunder won back-to-back in 2019 and 2020, followed by the Humber Hawks in 2023 and 2024. The 2021 and 2022 championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Humber Hawks (Toronto) men’s team won’t go quietly however, bringing veritable firepower in the likes of skip Jacob Horgan. The Sudbury native brings the experience of three Montana’s Brier appearances to the field (2023, 2025 and 2026), as well as 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles bronze medal.

A win for the Hawks would tie it for most CCAA men’s curling championships with the Fanshawe Falcons, who lead the way with three titles to its name.

The 2026 U SPORTS and CCAA Curling Championships are the latest events hosted by the Callie Curling Club since 2016, when it hosted the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship.

Live streaming will be available on Curling Canada’s YouTube page, with sheet 8 being the feature sheet with commentary.
