Lockdown: 2 dead, another wounded after shooting spree at university
Two people are dead and another is wounded after a Thursday shooting at a South Carolina State University (SCSU) residential building, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
SLED was called to assist with the investigation and a suspect has yet to be named. The school went on a campus-wide lockdown at 9:15 p.m. Thursday night following reports of the shooting, and the lockdown lasted until 5:30 a.m. Friday morning.
One of the men shot died at the scene at the Hugine Suites student residential complex and the other died in the hospital, according to a press release SLED sent to the Daily Caller News Foundation. The investigation is active and ongoing.
The victims’ identities will come from the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office, per a SLED press release. As of Friday morning, there is no updated information on the condition of the person injured. SCSU, a historically black university, cancelled classes Friday and made counselors available to students.
The residential complex was the site of another shooting on Oct. 4 during the school’s homecoming celebration, killing a 19-year old woman. The university also had another shooting that same night, injuring another man.
The university did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
