Imran Khan Faces Vision Loss Concerns in Prison
A new legal report says imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan has lost most vision in his right eye, triggering urgent medical and political debate across Pakistan.
Khan’s lawyer revealed that he has lost nearly eighty-five percent of vision in his right eye, raising fresh concerns about his health while serving a lengthy prison sentence.
Defense attorney Salman Safdar informed Supreme Court of Pakistan that Khan complained for months about blurred and foggy vision without receiving timely medical intervention.
The medical concerns emerged after a two-hour court-approved meeting between lawyer and client, prompting judges to instruct authorities to facilitate access to Khan’s personal doctors quickly.
Government officials rejected claims of negligence, stating prison authorities arranged specialist treatment promptly after learning of Khan’s condition and ensured surgery was conducted by qualified doctors.
However, Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, criticized prison authorities, warning his deteriorating health poses serious risks and demanding unrestricted medical consultations approved by the detained leader himself.
Khan has remained in prison since August 2023 after receiving a corruption-related conviction, though he and his supporters consistently argue the legal cases are politically motivated.
His imprisonment has continued to fuel political tensions nationwide, with repeated protests, legal battles, and disputes shaping Pakistan’s fragile political landscape during the prolonged judicial proceedings.
