Government to construct Chikwawa, Blantyre District Hospitals in 2026/27

Chikwawa, February 13, MANA: Chikwawa and Blantyre districts are set to benefit from a major health infrastructure boost following the government’s announcement that construction of Chikwawa District Hospital and Blantyre District Hospital will commence in the 2026/27 Financial Year.
Presenting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament today, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika said, “Government will commence construction of Blantyre and Chikwawa District Hospitals in the 2026/27 Financial Year.”
Mutharika added that using the increased funding in the Constituency Development Fund, he expects more healthcare facilities to be built across the country.
The President also highlighted broader health sector improvements, stating that the government has increased the health budget by MK17 billion, alongside an extra MK5 billion dedicated to children’s vaccines.
He added that funding of this scale, with local resources, is the first of its kind in the history of this country.
