RFK Jr. Shares Shocking Explanation for Why He's 'Not Scared of a Germ' After Struggles with Addiction
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a surprising revelation about his stance on germs.
The 72-year-old secretary of Health and Human Services appeared on Theo Von‘s This Past Weekend podcast on Thursday (February 12).
Early in the conversation, RFK Jr. explained to viewers that he met Von while they were both in recovery, adding that he had personally been sober for 43 years.
Discussing recovery, Von acknowledged that it was “heartbreaking” during the COVID-19 pandemic when live recovery meetings were “shut down.” However, RFK Jr. chimed in to say that he continued to attend meetings with a “pirate group.”
He explained the simple reason that he wasn’t concerned about attending in-person meetings despite shutdown mandates.

“I said I don’t care what happens, I’m going to a meeting every day,” the politician said. “I said, ‘I’m not scared of a germ. I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats.’ ”
Continuing, he said, “I know this disease will kill me if I don’t treat it, which means, for me, going to meetings every day. It’s just bad for my life.”
“So for me it was survival. And then the opportunity to help another alcoholic. That’s the secret sauce of the meetings. That’s what keeps us all sober and keeps us from self-will,” RFK Jr. added.
