Darren Bent tells Tottenham Hotspur to appoint former Middlesbrough boss
Darren Bent believes that a 55-year-old English coach is the right man to bring stability to Tottenham Hotspur in these troubling times.
Tottenham are on the lookout for Thomas Frank’s replacement, and some reports indicate that Spurs are expected to appoint an interim head coach until the end of the season.
It has been reported that Tottenham has been in contact with Mauricio Pochettino since the start of the year, but the Argentine is unlikely to be available until the end of the World Cup.
A former Spurs striker has now urged the Lilywhites to turn to an experienced English coach who has been out of work since 2024.
Darren Bent tells Tottenham to appoint Gareth Southgate
Bent believes that Gareth Southgate is the right man to bring some stability to the North London side amidst the ongoing turmoil at the club.
Southgate has been out of work since leaving his England role at the end of Euro 2024, and Bent believes he is the best man Tottenham can get at the moment.
The pundit said on talkSPORT: “I think he (Southgate) is the one. In terms of stabilising the club, getting them to a point where they’ve got solid foundations, Southgate may be the best out there that they can get. He’s there and available, ready to go.
“Steve Holland and Southgate together are brilliant. I’ve never worked with Holland but he’s a brilliant coach. He’s at United with Carrick, so he’s not going to Tottenham.”
Mixed reports regarding Spurs’ pursuit of Roberto De Zerbi
Unsurprisingly, it has emerged that Roberto De Zerbi is one of the candidates being considered by Tottenham after exiting Marseille.
It has been reported by The I Paper that the former Brighton boss sees Spurs as the ‘next logical step’ in his managerial career, and is ready to take the job immediately.
However, this information has been contradicted by Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge, who claimed that De Zerbi does not want to take up any job until the end of the season.
