Whoever becomes the next Tottenham manager, it's absolutely crucial the fans do just one thing - Opinion
It looks like Igor Tudor could be the man to take over at Tottenham, at least on a temporary basis, and he’ll need one thing in order to succeed.
Clearly, the Spurs hierarchy didn’t have much of a plan when they sacked Thomas Frank this week; which is odd, considering we could all see what a disaster that whole situation was.
Still, with a new manager expected to be in place by Monday and a decision made for Spurs to appoint an interim coach rather than a permanent manager, we are moving in the right direction, it seems.
There are plenty of reasons to be frustrated right now. The team has been playing poorly and failing miserably to entertain, while those in the top positions at the club have floundered and hesitated in making key decisions. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that the January transfer window was a mess.
But, when the new manager comes in, it’s crucial that everyone pulls together to achieve one worrying mission.
Tottenham fans have to get behind the team and the manager
Over the last few years, it feels like we’ve had an endless stream of unrest and disillusionment at this football club. And rightly so, too.
The lack of ambition at Tottenham can be seen by everyone, from the fans, to former managers, and all of our big rivals mocking from the outside, too.
However, as painful as it is to be a fan of Spurs right now, it’s time to put all the booing and protests and negativity on hold for the next four months.
We’ve got 12 league games to go this season and only five points separate Tottenham from 18th-placed West Ham. Make no mistake, the Lilywhites are in a relegation scrap, and whether it’s Igor Tudor or any of the other managerial candidates who step in next, we all need to get behind them and ensure the unthinkable doesn’t become a reality.
The players are clearly just as frustrated as we are. It sounds like very few of them were on board with what Thomas Frank was doing, while Cristian Romero’s dig at the lack of transfer activity last month implies our own concerns are very much shared by the playing staff.
But, with the backing of the fans week in, week out, an electric atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and with (hopefully) a new manager bounce, that can all be put aside in the short-term.
Once the summer rolls around and a new permanent coach comes in, we can truly assess the damage this season has done to the club and demand better. For now, it’s just about survival.
Igor Tudor has one job and then we can all move on
The odds of Spurs being relegated are getting more and more concerning by the day. This team should have enough to stay up, but stranger things have happened.
For Igor Tudor, if we assume it is he who will come into the club as interim manager, the job description is simple enough: avoid relegation and then move on.
Obviously, there’s the distraction of Champions League football. A good run in that competition would be a bonus, of course, but if it’s at the detriment of Premier League results, then it’s all for nothing.
He may not be the most exciting appointment, but Spurs simply need someone to get the job done. As I said, we can hammer the board if they get the big decision in the summer wrong, but the chances of this temporary fix succeeding is down to everyone at the club, and that includes every single fan, too.
We’ve seen some horrendous football this season, but let’s be patient and allow the team to play without pressure, and hopefully everything will fall into place.
