Why Steven Spielberg's $25,000 Donation to James Van Der Beek's Family Holds So Much Meaning to 'Dawson's Creek' Fans
Steven Spielberg is the latest celebrity to donate a significant amount to the GoFundMe to support James Van Der Beek‘s family… and Dawson’s Creek fans know that this donation holds significant weight.
If you watched Dawson’s Creek, you’ll remember that James‘ character Dawson was an aspiring filmmaker who idolized Spielberg.
Show creator Kevin Williamson told EW several years ago, “Dawson’s bedroom was sort of a temple to Spielberg, and so I had to write a letter to him because he retains the rights to all that stuff. I was like, ‘Please, Mr. Spielberg, you don’t know me, but I was this kid. I had this bedroom. I had all your posters in my bedroom. Can I please present Dawson the way that he really was?’ It was really interesting, he wrote back and he wrote the loveliest response.”
“He was like, ‘You can use everything.’ He gave one condition: No mention of his wife or children. ‘Just keep it to me, and you can do whatever you want.’ And I was like, “Thank you, thank you, thank you,’” Kevin added.
Well, Steven is now showing his respect to James by making a donation to his family.
